After disastrous freshman math course at Rice, I gave up physics for economics (with a minor in German and a big service obligation in ROTC).  Spent a summer with a family outside of Genoa and learned to speak Italian pretty well.  Went on to complete UT Law School and briefly practiced law until I began 20+ yrs of military service (Vietnam, Germany twice, all over the US, even picking up an MSBA at Boston U.) After retiring as a LTC, I joined Mobil in Dallas in their systems shop, moving on to their E&P tech labs to round out nearly 10 yrs with them.  Then left Mobil to join a "boutique" consulting firm as a Data Architect/database consultant.  Retired in 2005.  Still haven't figured out what I want to be when I grow up.
